Expert Q&A

My 4-year-old daughter used a lot of jargon talk when she was about 2. We thought as she got older it would stop, but it hasn't and she still uses a lot of non-words in her sentences. She also does not answer yes or no questions when I ask her. She was seeing a speech therapist, but we have since lost our insurance, and I was hoping that you may be able to give me some suggestions that I can work on with her.

I wouldn't stop seeking speech therapy for your child just because you lost your insurance. By law, children 3 to 21 are eligible to receive services provided by the public school system. I know she probably is not in school yet, but she may be able to qualify for speech services through your local school system. I think that this is the best advice that I can give at this time because it sounds like she requires intervention. Call your local school system and ask how to get your daughter services.
