Expert Q&A

| By Michael F. Wasserman General Pediatrician | ||
What would cause a 4-year-old to have grey hair? Could it be related to diet?
Grey hair is clearly uncommon in young children, thus I would suggest that you consult your pediatrician. Consideration would include dietary or vitamin deficiencies, but these would likely to have to be severe and of long standing duration. Thus if your child is eating a relatively normal diet, this would be an unlikely explanation as to the cause of the disease.
Beyond this, it would be helpful to consider conditions that effect coloration in the hair, so I would suggest also consulting a pediatric dermatologist to look at skin disease, including inherited conditions (such as Waardenburg's Syndrome).
