Expert Q&A

My 2-year-old saw his cousin use the potty. He seemed so enthralled that I sat him on the potty and he went. I have started putting him on the potty before each bath, and most often he goes. I know he is really too young to truly start potty training, because he can't take his clothes off and on, and he can't control the urges, but if I start doing this about 15 to 30 minutes after he has a lot to drink, would it help him to learn? Would that do more damage than good, or should I try it?
Being positive about potty training is the best way to help a child transition to body function controls. Having your son gain positive feedback when you are able to "catch him ready to urinate" can be helpful. At the same time, be careful not to put undue pressure upon him, as he may begin withholding.
