Expert Q&A

| By Jenny Lewis, M.D. Pediatrician | ||
My son started sleeping with a GoodNite last Christmas at only 39 months. After four months, he had it, so he stopped wearing one. He was fine for months until my partner got sick and was hospitalized several times. He is back in GoodNites and does still have accidents even when I wake him every two hours to go to the bathroom. Is this normal, and will he get over it soon? I'm getting tired."
Enuresis, or bedwetting, is a very common concern for parents. In most cases, it's a condition that continues to a point where it stops, the child is toilet trained and it doesn't happen again. In your son's case, he was trained and has made a slight regression.
The first thing you need to do is mention it to your pediatrician. He/she will rule out any physical problems that might be causing this regression. Once that is ruled out, it might require a visit to a psychologist. It could be an emotional problem, especially if the child had a close, affectionate relationship with the partner that has been in and out of the hospital."
