Introduction

12-15-04

Owen had his doctor's appointment yesterday and it went OK. It's the same ol' story each time. It was so cold (and still is). I made sure we both had tons of clothes on and heavy coats. It's a big parking lot and it's rare to get a good parking spot. So, I ran with the stroller and was frozen by the time we got inside. It was in the 20s, I think with a wind chill in the teens.

They took us pretty quickly. Owen weighed in at 22 lbs 11 ounces and 30 1/4 inches (or was it 31 1/4"?) He seems tall to me but I think that's average. The nurse took his pulse and measured his head and the usual stuff. Owen hated it. He doesn't like to be poked and prodded. The doctor came in and I told him how well owen was doing on the inhalers. He decided to get us another referral to the ENT. I think the last referral expired and he'd like him to recheck him to see how his tubes are doing adn to see if he has any suggestions for his chronic runny nose. Owen was also prescribed Diflucan to see if he has a "fungus" in his sinuses. I fell like the doctor was throwing darts in the air on this one, but it's worth a shot. He looked through the chart and saw that the radiologist who had done Owen's x-ray recommended a CAT scan. We scheduled that for next Wednesday. Dr. C also prescribed some sudafed. We also had to go to the lab and have the blood draw for the test they screwed up last month. Fortunately, they hit the vein the first time and the whole ordeal was over in 30 seconds.

Owen's ears drained all weekend. This is the first time they have drained since we've had tubes in. His nose has been running so I started giving him Tylenol. My SIL told me he could be cutting a tooth. And he did. Owen got his 5th tooth on Monday - finally, he's getting more teeth. I hope his cold gets better now.

G is doing great. I trimmed the boys hair over the weekend. - I like having boys for that reason - And G told me to take it all off. I didn't though. If I'd had an electric razor, it may have come all off since I probably would've screwed up and had to even it out. The daycare lady kept calling Owen "Hair" because he'd come in with a fuzzy fro and she'd just laugh plus, many people have thought he was a girl. So, it was time. Under the circumstances of him being squirley, I did pretty well. It's not as short as I'd like it but it's even and shorter.

G had his first sleepover on Friday. A neighbor boy, Chase came over. They also go to the same daycare. His parents came over for dinner (pizza) on Friday night and stayed for a while. G and Chase played all night. we put them in the tent in G's room and that didn't last long. Chase wanted in the bed; G decided he didn't want to sleep with Chase because he kept talking. By, morning, G was on the couch and Chase was on the loveseat. Chase had somehow gotten back into the tent then when he woke up at 7 am and G wasn't there, he came down and woke us up (he calls me "G's mom") and said he wanted G to sleep with him. So, we put him on the loveseat. Chase just turned 5. He's huge at 60 lbs and wearing size 7 clothes. They had a great time though. It was nice to see them play together. They both wore Spiderman PJs and ate pizza, popcorn and everything else they could find. Owen loved having them around too, but I think he felt slighted. He sure loves G.

We finished up our Christmas shopping with those last few "forgotten" people over the weekend. The boys were frightened to death of Santa at the mall. Neither of them would get too close and were crying. So, I did take my own photo of the two of them clinging to Ron crying. Ron bought me TIVO from Best Buy - I haven't quite figured out which part of his heart he got this gift idea. Because I never asked for it, or even know what the hell it is. He said this was my Christmas gift. What a sucky gift. Of course, he already bought the 1st month's subscription and tore up the box for teh rebate so we can't take it back. I told him I didn't want it and he then got mad at me and said he never knows what to get me - I give him so many hints!!! Forget it, I'm just going to buy my own gifts. If I want something I'll buy it myself. I've told him so many times to talk to my mom and get stuff from her or have her go shopping with him, but NO, he won't! Any suggestions on how to turn an idiot husband into a great gift giver? i won't even go into the stuff he's gotten me in the past - to include the "TESTER" lotion at the Bath and Body Shop, or used earrings... So, I'm trying to work up to being dissappointed for Christmas. Then maybe, I won't be asdissappointed. It's like this every year, for every event. His family is the same as him. Last year, his mom sent me a bag of Pecans. Granted, I wanted some since they grow them in El Paso, but that's all she sent me. How strange. The woman doesn't even know my birthday either.

So, G wants a grey cowboy hat. I found one last week. My MIL said she'd get it, but hasn't so I told her to forget it, because I found one. I also got him some markers, games, toys. I've bought him so much stuff. I've reserved some of it for his birthday. For Owen, I got him a Little People barn with a Horse that is musical and plays the william tell overture - his favorite song. He's also getting a puzzle and a few other things. I got Ron a cherry game table from Bombay company. Ron loves to play chess and I thought he'd like a piece of furniture to play chess on and store his pieces instead of putting the board away everytime he's done. My dad had a table and it was nice. I know he liked it. I also bought Ron two new suits. While at the mall on Sunday, the menswear store had a 2 for $200 sale. And with a $300 purchase you got a $50 gift card. So, I got Ron a pair of shoes and new tuxedo shirt. The suits will be done on the 23rd. I would love to sell my house for Christmas. Is that possible? Oh, G did tell me he wanted to buy me Christmas cookie cutters for Christmas. How sweet. I think that's a thoughtful gift. He knows I like to bake.

Ron is out of town again today. It was a last minute trip. I made the flight arrangements for them (he and his boss) on Monday to leave Tuesday AM. I found a great flight for a great price, saving the company $1500. I joked around and asked my boss if I'd be getting a bonus - and he said, No, not this year. Well, any year would be great, but I never get a bonus. I did the first year 6 years ago. I did get a raise though. Everyone did. And we are going to a Christmas Dinner/Social on Saturday. Merry Christmas, right? It's something, I suppose. It used to be that corporate would always forget about us and in January, we'd always have our Christmas dinner. I remember it was 5 days after G was born in 2001. G was born on the 18th. We were always the forgotten group. Anyway, Happy Holidays and hopefully, I'll write before then.
