From Ghosts to Goblins
Hauntingly Cute Halloween Crafts
By Kymberly Pratt
A fun project to make with your child!
You'll need:
Large coffee filters
Washable markers
Spray bottle
Tissue or small Styrofoam balls
White pipe cleaners
Yarn or twine
Here's what you help your child do:
1. Flatten out the coffee filters and let the children color on them with the washable markers. They can make pretty designs or just color randomly.
2. After they are finished coloring, help them to spray water on the designs, and due to the washable nature of the markers, the colors should run to make a "tie die" effect. Set the coffee filters aside to dry.
3. After the filters are dry, let the children stuff some tissue in the middle of the filter to make the ghost's head, or they could wrap the filter around a small Styrofoam ball, whichever you decide to use. Below the head, in the neck region, secure the filter with a white pipe cleaner.
4. Make several and then secure them to your yarn or twine and use them to decorate for the holidays.
Pumpkin Wreath
You'll need:
Several small pumpkins (3 to 4 inches)
Acrylic paints
Brushes and sponges
Wire wreath mold
Moss and floral wire
Hot glue
Here's what your child needs to do:
1. Have the children paint designs, faces, stripes, etc., on the pumpkins and set them aside to dry. You will probably need 10 to 12 depending on the perimeter size of your wreath.
2. While your pumpkins are drying, have your child secure the moss to the wire form with the floral wire around the entire circle.
3. After the pumpkins are finished drying, secure them to the wire form with hot glue and floral wire. (Always supervise children when using a glue gun.)
Your child can hang their wreath from a door or lay it on a dining room table or coffee table to help decorate. You can add other decorations to the wreath, such as a few Colorful Ghosts or candy corns.
