Pumpkin Time! Let's Learn About Orange
Sing this fun song to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus":
The pumpkins in my garden are orange, orange, orange,
Orange, orange, orange, orange, orange, orange
O-R-A-N-G-E
The oranges on my tree are orange, orange, orange,
Orange, orange, orange, orange, orange, orange
O-R-A-N-G-E
October is a wonderful time to focus on learning the color orange! Here are some fun ideas:
- Take a nature walk and collect autumn leaves. Toddlers will enjoy carrying the pretty leaves around, while preschoolers can have fun after the walk making leaf rubbings. To make one, place a leaf under a sheet of copy or printer paper. Then take a crayon (may we suggest orange?) and peel off the paper. Lay the crayon sideways and rub over the leaf – it "magically" appears on the paper.
- Plan an orange "feast" with your child, suggests Cindy Holton-Vance, a Montessori educator in West Monroe, La. Goldfish crackers, orange juice or orange slices, carrot sticks and sliced or cubed cheddar cheese make for a healthy and preschooler-pleasing snack.
- Visit a pumpkin patch. Most feature a variety of pumpkin sizes, including miniatures. Your child will love picking out her very own little pumpkin. To find a pumpkin patch near you, visit Pumpkin Patches and More or LocalHarvest.org.
