Remember, all children are different. You know your child best, and only you can determine if they are ready to start kindergarten. Trust your instincts. Be sure to read Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten? for more information on what your child should know before starting school.

All states have different requirements for children entering kindergarten. Check with the school administration in your area to see what is required of your child. If your child has not mastered at least half of these skills, it's a good idea to talk with the kindergarten teachers at the school your child will be attending. Tell them your concerns and ask their opinion. Take of a copy of this checklist with you so they can see in what areas your child is struggling. Be sure to check out our Preparing for Kindergarten Worksheets to use with your child in preparing for school.
