Fall's Bounty

Turn Nature into Fun!

When fall arrives, it brings with it a plethora of natural craft materials. The weather is cooler, so items like pinecones, twigs, moss and leaves can be gathered on long walks and used for creative and fun craft projects. Grab your jacket and your child and bring some of fall's bounty into your home.

Pinecone Frame

You'll need:
4 craft sticks or a pre-made wood picture frame
Cotton swabs
White tacky glue
1 pinecone
4x6-inch picture

Here's what you do:
If you are using craft sticks, glue the four together to form a picture frame and allow time to dry before decorating.

Help your child pull off the pinecone "leaves." Or you can do this part beforehand if you're worried little ones might get poked. Put the leaves in a pile or bowl for your child.

Cover about 2 inches of the frame generously with tacky glue. Give your child a cotton swab and let him help you wipe on the glue. Together, place the pinecone pieces on the glue. Do a section at a time until the entire frame is covered. Allow the frame to dry completely, then add your favorite photo.

Fall Garland

You'll need:
Lots of fall leaves
White tacky glue

Here's what you do:
Go on a nature walk and gather as many large fall leaves as your child can find. The more you gather, the larger your craft. When you get home, line your leaves up in a long line. Your child will love this part!

Help your child glue each leaf end to end as if you are making garland. The white tacky glue works well but you also can use hot glue for an immediate effect. Make one long strand of garland or several shorter ones. Use them to bring a touch of fall to your house!
