Crafts With Ice
Fun Activities Using Ice
By Kymberly Pratt
What child isn't fascinated with ice? After you delight your toddler by showing him how water turns into this cold cube that keeps his apple juice cold, try these fun activities! (Adult supervision is required for all activities.)
You'll need:
Cans of all sizes
Plastic bowls of all sizes
Milk cartons
Coke bottles
Here's what you do: Help your child fill the containers with water, being sure to leave some room for expansion. Place them in the freezer overnight. The next day, show your child how to dip them into warm water to help remove the ice blocks. Then the fun begins. Let your child manipulate them to make houses and communities. This would be a fun activity to do outside on a cold day so their masterpiece lasts longer.
Tempera paint
Toothpicks
Ice cube tray
Heaviest paper you can find (like you use for finger painting)
Here's what you do: Fill the ice cube tray with water and place a toothpick in it to act as a handle for the cube of ice. Hint: if you will let part of it freeze and then insert the toothpick it will stand straight up.
When the ice is frozen, place some paint on the paper and paint with the cube of ice instead of a brush. The designs and effects are amazing!
Tip: The heavier the paper, the better the results. The finger paint paper can be purchased at any craft store or Wal-Mart. It does not absorb the water like construction paper would.
