A Whole Year of Toddler Activities By Shannon McKelden
(Hamish Hamilton Ltd., 1990) by Eric Carle. Then go outside with your bug net, magnifying glass and a jar and have a bug hunt. Once you find a bug, use this opportunity to teach your child how to be gentle with insects and to always release them. You never know when you may be nurturing a budding entomologist! August: Who's Got Berries?Kelli Estes suggests taking your tot to a local berry farm to pick your own berries. Back at home make a recipe using your berries, or try this one from RecipesToday.com:
Blueberry and Banana Smoothie
You'll need:
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1 ripe banana, frozen
1 container (8 ounces) vanilla yogurt
8 to 10 ice cubes
Place all the ingredients in a blender. Pulse until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and serve.
Helen Polaski, a mom from Milan, Mich., expands the idea, suggesting using a digital camera to snap photos of your child picking the berries or eating them then using the photo with the date as the label on the jar. Makes a great gift!
